Day 14 - Andover to Lisbon

A nice, sunny morning helped us get moving early.  We hooked up and checked out by 9:30am.
Leaving site #39
Our view from the front window

Our 126 mile journey included stops at Mosquito Lake, Guilford Lake and Beaver Creek State Campgrounds. But, that's just part of the story.

Pymatuning ...
Let's back up a bit.  We missed a significant attraction.  The spillway on the Pymatuning Reservoir is across the lake from the campground. Ducks walk on the fish there.

Here's an excerpt from http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/2204.

"You can't beat hurling a chunk of food and watching animals fight for it. Primitive Man did it with dogs around the campfire. People in Linesville, Pennsylvania, do it today. Their food is white bread, the animals are carp, and the venue is the Spillway on the Pymatuning Reservoir. It's known to the world as, "Where the Ducks Walk on the Fish."

This attraction does not advertise, yet it draws over 300,000 hurlers a year, according to park manager Pete Houghton. By the town's reckoning, the Spillway is the second most popular tourist destination in all of Pennsylvania, trailing only the Liberty Bell."

Breakfast surprise ...
We stopped for breakfast at Top Notch Diner in Courtland. What a treat! The food was excellent and a great value. Carol's special consisted of 2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, home fries, and 2 pancakes with blueberry topping ... for $5.99.

Bridge sighting ...
This sign and bridge appeared without warning as we passed Elkton on OH-154.

End of the day ...
The last two state campgrounds we saw weren't appealing, so we decided to camp at Lock 30 Woodlands RV Resort near Lisbon for the night.

Unfortunately, our GPS directed us the short way. the route was steep and worrisome.
We had to climb a steep, rough, back road.
And ... go down something similar.
The destination (site #12) was worth it.

A path from the campground treated us to a walk along Beaver Creek and a view of Beaver Canal Lock 30.

There were pretty sights
Some sights weren't so pretty.
This snake surprised us.
