We headed south
today to see the last 9 campgrounds on our list. They’re in the southern and
southeastern parts of the state.
The start was
slow; we got on the road around 1:45pm. The weather was great; mostly sunny,
light breeze and a high of 90°.
We drove 112
miles to Shawnee State Campground at
West Portsmouth.
On the way …
It was fun to
watch the terrain change as we traveled down US-23. We passed Circleville, Chillicothe,
Waverly and Portsmouth.

Shawnee State Campground …
Our
distinction between nice and exceptional campgrounds is subtle and differs from
campground to campground. Shawnee
gets the top grade because of its many amenities and scenic campsite
placements.
End of day …
We’re camped
at site 6 in Shawnee. The site is
nicely placed, but the parking pad isn't level.
We have no
internet service here. Verizon’s signal is so weak that we can’t make or
receive calls and our hotspot doesn't work.
