Today was one
of the nicest of the trip. We had sun in
varying amounts all day. The temperature
reached a high of 60°.
We drove 123
miles and visited two campgrounds. Both
were difficult to reach.
Leaving Findley State Campground …
We explored a
bit before getting on the road.
We were wrapped in trees. |
We can see Findley Lake. |
We can even see this duck on the far side of the lake. (Thanks to a 50X zoom camera) |
On the way ...
Wellington made quite an impression. It’s attractive. Streets are lined with very large, well maintained homes. Even the downtown buildings were charming.
Wellington Town Hall |
Many of the
small towns along OH-18 from Wellington to Medina were well kept and looked
very prosperous.
Portage Lakes State Campground …
We had quite
a time finding this campground. It’s a long way from Portage Lakes State Park. Signage didn't help guide us. We found
it with the help of a park visitor familiar with the area. Unfortunately, what
we saw didn't warrant the effort to find it.
West Branch State
Campground …
This
campground was easy to find, but hard to get to. We approached from I-76 and OH-14.
We found that a bridge on the way to the campground was out and that the detour
took us around the lake to Ravenna. This find was exceptional. It was so nice
we decided to stay the night.
End of day …
We’re camped
at site 104 in West Branch. The site,
the campground and the weather have combined to make this a delightful evening.
The sun is setting, the sky is clear, the wind is calm, we’re surrounded by
trees, and Michael J. Kirwan Lake is
about a football field length in front of us. It’s really peaceful here!
